The Scott Polar Institute’s Library Catalogue

The Scott Polar Institute’s Library Catalogue will shortly be migrated to Cambridge University’s Library System which is accessible worldwide online. This is good news for our Library’s unique collection of materials on the Russian North and Russian research in Antarctica.

Prior to this over 26,000 records of Russian language items are being transliterated into Cyrillic with the aim of reconverting them into Library of Congress transliteration system.

It has not been easy as the current system used is BGN/PCGN which does not have 1:1 correspondence of letters! However the exercise has enabled us to proof-read all the records and correct mistakes
