Staying European. ABDOS conference Call for papers

CALL FOR PAPERS 

The 48th International ABDOS Conference entitled

“Staying European – The role and responsibility of libraries for the
preservation, accessibility and propagation of European cultural heritage”

will take place in the Hungarian capital Budapest from 27th to 30th May 2019.

The conference will be jointly organized by ABDOS (Working Group of Libraries and Documentation Units for Research on East, East Central and South Eastern Europe) and the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The conference venue will be the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences at Arany J. u. 1, 1051 Budapest, Hungary ().

In the framework of the conference the General Assembly of ABDOS will take place. As part of the conference library visits and an excursion are planned.

The conference program will focus on the interrelationship between valuable collections, modern technologies and controlled metadata. The organizers therefore request proposals for academic papers, presentations as well as short contributions on the following topics:

  1. A European view of looted cultural heritage materials
  2. Bringing dislocated materials virtually together again
  3. Bibliographic work and cooperation today and in future
  4. Digitization projects from an academic view point
  5. Bibliometrics and scientometrics from a European perspective
  6. Open Access – wishes, dreams and realities
  7. Free topics

The conference languages will be German, English and Russian. As a courtesy to our international participants speakers are encouraged to make the power point presentations accompanying their papers available in English.

The conference fees are 70 Euros for ABDOS members, 90 Euros for non-members and 400 Euros for commercial participants. This will include catering during the coffee breaks and lunch.

Please send proposals for papers/presentations (20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion) or shorter contributions (10 minutes plus 5 minutes for discussion) until 16th February 2019 to

We plan to publish the conference proceedings in cooperation with the East European Department of the Berlin State Library – Prussian Cultural Heritage.
